Your Job Search Strategy - How to Tilt the Odds in Your Favor
Executive job seekers are being challenged by massive corporate layoffs that create a crowded field of job candidates, widespread hiring freezes, and long, protracted series of interviews (i.e., when an opportunity has been identified). How do you tilt the odds in your favor?
Setting realistic expectations and then executing well on a thoughtful and strategic plan is very important. Also, being open to transitioning your skills to more than one type of job or industry expands your options. This starts with knowing yourself well and crafting a strong personal brand - a brand that is distinctive, memorable, and seeks to be a solution to the market that you are targeting. You will set yourself apart from your competition and, in times when companies are cutting expenses, you can position yourself as an investment that pays back.
Traditional networking is not effective, particularly in a tight market. You will need to take a different approach to identify and cultivate worthwhile relationships with decision-makers and influencers. Develop conversations and relationships...not just contacts and leads. Companies hire even as they lay off employees. Specific experience and skills will be needed. Staying optimistic with a plan that you apply with focus and discipline will be critical.
